Come join us this month at Hub as we discuss the Christian principle of selflessness.

We all get consumed with ourselves; sometimes we’re not even aware of it. We learn from a young age that life is about winning and impressing. We pick up that our worth and value come from how good, how smart, and how skilled we are. So, we twist things in our favor, making us look like we have it all together. Every day we have the choice to prop up these false ideas about ourselves or to let go of them. Jesus invites these parts of us to die, the parts of us that tell us our worth comes from the things we say and do. Maybe it’s only when we let these things die, that we truly begin to live.

For those of you that don’t know, Hub is a new ministry project that’s been started by the college-aged young adults from Mobile Christian Center. The purpose of Hub is to help people in need throughout the Mobile area through service work, following the example of Jesus Christ.

The secondary and intentional purpose of Hub is to bring fellow believers of various backgrounds and denominations together in relationship by serving others together. We desire to see denominational walls broken down between churches in Mobile, and we believe that one of the best ways do that is to follow the Biblical mandate to live in relationship with fellow believers, experiencing Christ together.

Currently Hub serves the homeless of Mobile the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month at 15 Place downtown where food is served, and relationships are made. It’s been a great experience so far and has really taken off in the short amount of time it’s been running. Our friend Brad from Bayou La Batre has led many homeless to the Lord and takes people from 15 place with him to church every Sunday by the van loads.

Hub meets every Thursday night at 7 for worship, fellowship, and discussions on relevant topics. June  will mark a new format for Thursday night meetings which we are all very excited about. Feel free to come by a Thursday night meeting to check it out or to get connected to service work in Mobile.

• Saturday, August 4, 2009, 5:00 PM – Elders & wives meet with Dr. Bob Nichols at Pam & Joey Bosarge’s home.
• Sunday, August 5, 2009, FELLOWSHIP MEAL, immediately following our Sunday Celebration.  Please bring a dish to share.  Also, after the children are done eating lunch and having their ice-cream, we will conduct a puppet show re-enactment of the resurrection of Jesus.  Following the puppet show, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids.
• Sunday, August 5, 2009, Dr. Bob Nichols will be sharing in our gathering Sunday morning.  Invite everyone you know for a great time with Dr. Bob.  He is an incredible communicator with a tremendous gift of teaching.  You don’t want to miss it.
• Also, Sunday, August 5, during the Easter Egg Hunt, Dr. Bob will meet with the young adults for a “close encounter”.  This will be a great time for our young people to get to know him in a more intimate setting.
• And finally, on Sunday, August 5, at 5:00 PM, there will be an OPEN HOUSE at Pam and Joey Bosarge’s (14130 Dauphin Island Parkway, Coden – ½ mile south of the Shell Yellowhammer Plant) for all who would like to attend.  Light refreshments will be served.
